I regret that although the name sounds familiar I cannot confirm that it's Port St, Mike.

It's the street you arrive at having walked down from the Castle so that the Wallace statue is on your left and facing you is an entrance to the Thistle Centre Mall.

Yes the Scottish Connection was empty apart from myself, Andrew and the proprietors. I concluded it must be something to do with the time of year as Stirling had much fewer visitors than Edinburgh did and it's in quite a good location. I think some people could mistake it for a pub from the outside - I had to cross the road before I could see items in the window to the right!

Yet I didn't see any other shops of that type in Stirling, unlike Edinburgh!

I bought a piper figure there to inspire me with my piping goals!

LOL, that one changes names a half-dozen times, between the Castle and Thistle Centre. Ballengeich Road becomes Ballengeich Pass, then Upper Castlehill, then Castle Wynd, then St. John Street, then Spittal Street and then finally it becomes King Street, before it intersects with Murray Place, in front of the Thistle Centre. There is where I was confused. If you had turned to the left, to go back to the train station, that is Murray Place, but had you turned to the right, that is Port Street. And I think that section of Port was already pedestrianized.

Och aye, you didn't get off the beaten path enough. Had you turned to the right on Goosecroft and walked to the point at Barnton Street, you would have found a couple of shops. There are a couple more shops over on Baker Street, where it parallels Spittal, if memory serves.

Obviously not with the beaten path bit!

At least I didn't find the tat shops that one would have found on the "beaten path" in Edinburgh!
