Help on waistcoat

I agree with the majority here. A waistcoat is not semi-formal. SO if you don't have the right gear go in a suit.

They are indeed wait staff jackets; my staff captains wear them. With a little work they will make a passable kilt jacket though.

Semi-formal is my word a not part of the invite. Those of us going, agreed to be dressed up as opposed to the usual casual. It's a kilt night at the Scottish Rite Club in Hamilton (Ontario). Perhaps one day I shall be able to go formal. Is there a scource for any sewing patterns out there for PC, Argyle and such?

In that case, go as best you can, but definitely kilted. Button up the waistcoat, except for the last button, with a tie complimentary to your kilt; either primary color of the tartan or the primary stripe.

Here's the only pattern I know of for a coat; it'd be a pretty major, complex project; beyond my limited seamstress abilities:

I have to agree that a waist coat isn't the best choice for semi-formal events...

BUT! It can look very nice.

Here is a picture of my Christmas outfit



This isn't a kilt vest. I just turned the two corners up and pinned them to the underside of the vest with two very small safety pin to create a sporran cutaway. One button and button hole were concealed this way.

Here is a picture of of Monkey@Arms and I from our Burns' Night Supper. He couldn't afford an Argyle but was able to get a proper kilt waistcoat. I think you will agree he looks rather sharp.



I personally think that a watch chain adds a certain je na sais quoi to the vest.

Is there a dress code at the Scottish Rite Club? Do they require that gentlemen wear coats?
