It is not unusual for the bottom point to be brought back up and pinned to the top of the kilt (or tucked under the belt) if you are wearing one while country dancing. I know some friends, who are very into Scottish country dancing who have a small garment hook sewn to the bottom point of the plaid. It can't be seen but it makes the plaid very easy to put up and down. Some will leave it hooked all the time and it looks fine.
