strange kilt !

Any idea what those buttons are for? Two in the front, and at least one on the side.

PS: I told him the pleats go in back.

I can't tell from the pictures if they're actually buttonholed or not, but they're placed correctly to hold the bottom edge of a kilt belt up, I think.
