It would help if we knew what material and/or company you are planning to go with. The tartan selection differs from vendor to vendor, especially in materials like Polyviscose or poly cotton.

Maybe Sportkilt. I was very pleased with the mini-kilt I got from them.

AVOID THE NAUGAHYDE!
Have you ever seen a wounded mother Nauga trying to protect her young from a hunter? It's so sad to watch...

A challenge to any of our kilt makers? You might make a new kilting boom!

If versatile is what you want, why not go with a two tone black/white tartan like Cairn or Menzies? Any colour can be coordinated with them and nothing dresses up like black or white (or both). Try a USAK casual in Menzies.
I've kilt for less.

I don't want a black or white tartan because the shirts I plan to wear are black and/or white. I want some color. I really do like the Warrior tartan. The Baru is very nice as well. Bright reds don't look very good on me. Dark reds like wine red and garnet do though.
