The McGregor or the Wallace on the SportKilt site look bright, if you like RED.
I like the Edinburugh Tartan, have a necktie in that one!
If you don't like reds, consider the Campbell.

Aye, I gotta agree with Dread, Flower or Pride of Scotland have a lot of purple in them, Scottish Heather as well.

If you like the lighter blues Anderson is nice, I have one and it's one of my 18 favorites.

I must respectfully insert my opinion that any majority of red would be a terrible colour for our fair lady.

She's dark... Subdued colours would be flattering, with traces of brightness and contrast.

I just reread this thread... And I realise that my schooling is having an effect on me.

I don't know if that is a good thing or not. I'm not pretty enough to talk like a fashion designer. Dahling.

    My wife is a bright.

If versatile is what you want, why not go with a two tone black/white tartan like Cairn or Menzies? Any colour can be coordinated with them and nothing dresses up like black or white (or both). Try a USAK casual in Menzies.
    I've kilt for less.

Ah, I was beaten to it... the Warrior.

    Alternatively, how about the Baru

    or the Orkney?
