GO FIGURE!
I'd been raised in a family that kept the traditions of the olde country. Went to countless highland games. Never even thought about buying and wearing a kilt.
Then 3 years ago I'm at the Ren Faire in Apache Junction, AZ and spot a guy in a caramel Utilikilts workman's. I locked in. I had to have one. I followed him until I could get a good read of the logo on his hindquarters and jotted down the then unfamiliar name.
Went home, got on the Internet, and ordered my first UK...took three months to arrive back then but I was off and running. Ordered a couple of the old gathered style SportKilts to medicate that first long long long jones.
Today, I own 55 kilts - and I think about 8 of them are hand sewn traditional wool kilts....I wear kilts full time...and my kilt addiction is flourishing....All because a guy wore a caramel UK workman's to a Ren Faire and I spotted it.
Wonder who that guy was?
Anyhow, seems to me that in my case at least - any kilt exposure is good. You never know who's gonna get hooked by the kilts we wear.

"I'll have a kilt please, a nice hand sewn tartan, 16 ounce Strome. Oh, and a sporran on the side, with a strap please."
