In both World Wars, actually: A number of Americans joined the RCAF, and during WWI, there was actually an "American Legion" that served with the CEF. In fact, glengarryhats.com actually sells a reproduction of their badge.
And I would be remiss if I didn't mention the 1st Special Service Force, aka "The Devil's Brigade", a joint US-Canadian special ops unit in WWII.
And of course, we both "stand on guard" through NORAD.
