Fly plaid loop

If I do that, the end almost touches the ground. It's 51 inches by 41 inches, and larger than most fly plaids, which seem to be a yard or a meter square.

Sorry, I don't mean to pry, but are you by chance under say about 5'-6" tall? It's hard to tell from LordKiltClad's photo, but it looks like he might be about 5'-10" to 6' tall. As shown in the photo below, his fly plaid is only about 9" to 12" or so off the deck.

No, I am 6 feet tall. Perhaps the fly plaid was made for some one taller than me...but a foot taller?

So it isn't a square? That's unusual, as I have only seen (and own) fly plaids in two sizes: 39" square and 54" square. As for the loop, I would say that it's for attaching to the belt or the top of the kilt to simulate the appearance of a filleadh mhór. I've also heard of (though never seen) hooks being used in the same fashion.

Whether intentional or not, I tend to think of the smaller size as designed for shorter men, and the larger for taller men.
