And I will take advantage of mentioning that it may behoove those of you who are planning to attend and are not members of the Illinois Saint Andrews Society that you should keep an eye on the local papers this week to see if the ISAS once again makes their advert for the games a coupon for a few bob off the price of admission.

...and the coupons did show up in the Chicago Tribune.

I just looked at the ISAS page with the information and found the list of sponsors kind of interesting.

There's the whisky company that has "orangie" in it's name.

There's a major North American soft drink company....d'ya think that they'd be able to market Irn Bru over here? If they told the teenagers how much caffeine it had in it...?

There's a famous shortbread company that has a reputation for putting pictures of slightly-over-the-top images of Highlanders on its tins.

There's a golf supply company...lest we forget just where the game came from.

There's a chain of local liquor stores that has a reasonably huge selection of single malts in stock....far more than any other of the stores around here...God bless 'em.

There's even the Illinois Arts Council...now there's a nice recognition of the contributions of Scottish Culture to the fabric of our fair state.

We always look at and often joke about what advertisers suport different events and publications. The theory being that they know where to place their ads to reach the audience that's most likely to buy their product or service. This started when I was young and we determined that the average reader of the local TV guide was a bald man with a leaky basement who was in desperate need of new storm windows and had a hernia. Looks like the Highland Games advertisers must consider the attendees to be a rawther upscale and discriminating group.

    Of course we are!

Haha, by that logic (the whole "ads mirror the audience") have you ever noticed that every single commercial during The Price Is Right is for a) Life Insurance b) Diabetes Medication or c) Rascal Scooters? I always found it funny.
