The difference is that doeskin fabric is shorn off a sheeps back! It's a woolen fabric, which one assumes, resembles the skin of a doe (just as moleskin resembles moles' fur).

Yes, the tweedshop offering is what I want, but I had seen it already and had hoped that X-markers would flood the message board with all sorts of links to waistcoat peddlers/makers.

Is the waistcoat really in decline??

Thanks for the explanation. Must say, I'm relieved.

My general impression is that the habit of dressing reasonably well at all is in decline. Every day at work has turned into a sloppy example of casual Friday, and casual Friday itself has become an opportunity to wear clothes I might be seen in after a full day gardening.*

A good source for wool waistcoats in a suiting weight fabric is Joseph A. Bank, www.josbank.com. It seems that they're phasing out their current line of the, so there are bargains to be had!

The only problem with their waistcoats is that if you're in the 5'8" or shorter range, you might need to get a tailor to shorten the waistcoat for kilt wear.

I bought one of their reversable tartan waistcoats to wear with my MoD shade saffron (I only wear the dk green side out). The waistcoats are a bit more pricey, $84, but were the perfect length and didn't require tailoring!

Ok, off to continue my search for a country style waistcoat in a colour that would suit my forthcoming grey tweed kilt!
