I went with the black straps and nickel plate hardware but I'm sure the brown and brass would go well with it too.

Don't get me wrong, the blue is purdy... But it simply isn't my colour. Now if it was a bit darker... Woohaa!
Also, I'd do red toned leather and brass hardware with that shade of blue. It is to light and bright for black / silver. I'd finish it off with brown sporran, belt, and shoes.

I tried the oxblood with it and I would have to use black contrasting stitching with it, even then it's a tough call. The darker brown leather works a bit better. I'll have to play around with it some more.
The brass can soften the look. We shall see how the public takes to it at the Highland games.
 Thanks for the input.
 cheers
 Robert

Oxblood or brown... Even a deep rich chocolaty brown.
I am not sure if the words will come out right, but the blue jean looking hemp with black leather just makes it look to... 'everyday' I guess you might say. To common. The typical uniform of day to day life, found on just about every person around me. Blue jeans, black leather belt. Something reddish or brownish for contrast would allow it to stand out in a crowd more. Make sense?

Your kilts are far to nice to just blend in with the common 'blah' and doldrums. Needs something to make it stand out and say "Hey, look at me!"

I have the richer dark brown leather as well and I'm looking at it, experimenting with contrasting stitching as well.
or do something along these lines

Hi Robert, sorry i missed this post, I've been away.
While I too, prefer darker colours, both are nice and go well with the shirt.
Are you able to get samples off to me?

			Very persuasive

In another first for Australia, Robert tells me that my new true blue hemp kilt is completed and soon on it's way Down Under.
This will be a work kilt, the hemp is designed for work and it works hard. It will be my third hemp RKilt, the first one is worn every day and is no where near looking worn out.

Great work Robert! I'll post piccies when it arrives.

I personally like black leather with the blue. It allows the wearer to match his kilt with lots more stuff. It allows him to wear a black sporran if he wants. The reddish color or the dark brown limits what you can (tastefully) wear.
Different strokes for different folks... That's also why it's cool to have a CUSTOM kilt maker who can change things like that from kilt to kilt!
