MacLeod Hunting Modern really like it & my surname is Williamson, even though my family has typically assocciated with Clan Gunn
Black Watch my Great Great Grand father was in the Royal Scot's Dragoon Guards

MacDonald haven't decided whether I'll get MacDonald or Of The Isles (My Great Grandmother's maiden name was McKluskey, her ancestors migrated from Ireland to Clan Donald Territory.)

Glasgow Modern my family lived there in the 19th century

Macdonald of Kingsburgh for my ancestor's living on the Trotternish Peninsula of Skye.

Macdonald of the Isles for my Skye lineage

Isle of Skye for a district tartan.

Gordon modern, Gordon red, and weathered Gordon for a strong line that crossed the Bozeman Trail in 1866 amid the Indian Wars.

Cameron red and black for Catherine Cameron the wife of my 3 great grandfather who came from Skye to Cape Breton Island in 1856


Maternal side

Fraser for a rogue great grandfather from Glasgow

Buccleuch for its association with the Scotts

Scott modern red for my mother's mother's clan

Thomson gray for a suspected maternal line



Heritage

Scottish National, Ireland's National, saffron, Prince of Wales for my lineage to those three great lands


Service

Royal Air Force in honor of my father's service as a fighter pilot with the RAF in 1942 including the Dieppe Raid.

U.S. Army in honor of my father's service with the Army Air Corps in 1942-45 including being shot down at Kassarine Pass. Also his little brother Don's service with the 157th Infantry Regiment - The Thunderbirds - carrying a Thompson submachine gun across France and Germany and being with the first company to liberate Dachau.

Leatherneck in honor of my late little brother's service with the USMC including time as a drill instructor. Also my cold war efforts in 1965-66.


Groups

The X Marks the Scot tartan for the fun on this board

The Warrior tartan to get a lot of purple to wear for domestic violence days and functions since I'm on the board of directors of our local domestic violence shelter.


The other tartans I own were purchased just because I like them and they offered variety back when I was wearing kilts to work daily.

MacDonald of the Isles Hunting Weathered:because my paternal family is a sept of Clan Donald South (MacDonald of Dunyveg & the Glens) from Islay. I really like the weathered variation. The kilt I wear the most.

Loud MacLeod (Lewis/Dress) (Greatkilt): First kilt I ever bought. At the time, I had just traced some of my maternal ancestry to the MacLeods (no idea if Lewis or Harris branch). My daughter wears this tartan when she participates in highland dancing competitions. She always gets compliments. I'm not a big fan of yellow, but I gotta say-this is one beautiful tartan. Also, makes a great "terrible tartan" at Steeler games.

Blackwatch (Greatkilt): No real claims (except a few loose Campbells in the distant woodpile), other than the fact that it's an awesome tartan and is considered to be fairly "universal".

Something that looks like a weathered version of Blackwatch (Greatkilt): Not really a tartan, but it looks good. Makes a good loaner if someone else wants to wear a kilt to a re-enactment etc.

Other claims remaining to be fufilled:
MacDonald: both boys have modern MacDonald kilts, now I have to get one too (might make a perfect family portrait).
MacDougall: great grandmother.
Montgomery: other great Grandmother.
Antrim/Ulster districts: some paternal ancestry settled there.
O'Neill: on my paternal grandma's side. Love the tartan.
U.S.A: proud to be American, but don't really like the tartan too much.
Islay: supposedly a tartan is in the works, but I haven't seen it yet (maybe someone here has...)
Connaught: a branch of the family has been established in the Sligo area since the 14th century. Not my direct branch, but since the tartan is so cool, I'd be willing to bend a few "rules".
Pennsylvania: I'm Pennsylvanian. Beautiful tartan.
X-Marks: This forum rocks!
U.S. Army: In honor of my father's service in Vietnam & my Grandfather's service in WWII.

Wife's family: Cameron, MacLennan (& MacDonald too).

All the other various & sundry universals, etc. Not particularly looking for anything else, but if I spied a good deal, I'd get it.

There is also some German & Norwegian blood scattered throughout the branches of my family tree. Although there are tartans created or adopted for use by those type individuals, I don't think I'd really wear them.
