Your tartans and Why?
It has come up in another thread and I thought it was interesting.
So, as not to monopoloize the other thread and to have it in one collection, WHAT about HERE!
I'll go first:
MacNeil, through the Neel family (blood)
Wallace, through the Wallace family (blood)
Gordon, through the Todd family -sept of Gordon (blood)
Wilson (and Gunn), through the Wilson family (blood)
Loud MacLeod, through the Lewis family (by marriage)
Carolina, by residence and family roots
Georgia, by birth
USA Bicentennial, by nationality
MX-5 Owner's Club, by associate club membership and my car
Caledonia (general Scottish), for all the Scottish roots that I am unaware (inc. own surname origin)
MacBubba/Culloden, through membership in Clan MacBubba
X Marks the Scot (duh)
Clergy, by profession
Erskine College, by alma mater (custom, not yet adopted by the school)
"MacWage" (custom)
Isle of Skye, for its beauty (HEY, I NEVER said it COULDN'T be by looks)
Rob Roy (or MacGregor), in honor of Robert Roy Campbell, and through Grier connections
more that I am sure I am forgetting . . .

Hi All,
Mackenzie by father's surname- though a distant sept through ???. I'm partial to the weathered and ancient colors. The modern is striking, but only looks good when fully dressed.
Douglas by father's mother. She was only 2 generations off the boat, and from an established family (a total babe too!). Any old variant is good, but the weathered is best again.
Cheers,
Kevin.

OK my Tartans and why I will start with the tartan's I have:
Gunn Modern: Dad's side of the family, family heirloom
Graham of Mantieth: Again from my Dad's side of the family
Isle of Skye: I fell in love with the look of the tartan, as an aside I sobered up the same year it was woven and my Mom has always loved the Isle of Skye, not sure if there ever was any family there but there may have been.
Black Stewart: My Mom's maiden name is Stewart, and the red seemed a wee bit much.
so those are the tartans I have right now, but on order I have
Maple Leaf: As I am Canadian, and I love my country it made sense and Pete at Canadian Casual Kilts made it easy to get into.
I will be getting an xmarks made at some point, and will of course post pictures of it when that happens.
Tartans I would like
MacPherson: My Uncle Murdy's family is from a sept of the MacPherson's
MacDonald Again from my Uncle Murdy's side of the family.
After that I will have to do more digging into family history, but that is my list for today.

USMC Leather neck - Grandfathers service
Black Watch (Grant Hunting) - Family connection
Lamont Weathered - I like the tartan!
Isle of Skye - I like the tartan and the MacKinnons were from the island

Future Tartans
New Mexico, Land of Enchantment - Parents and family live in the state
Robertson Ancient Red - Great Grand Parents.
"A veteran, whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve, is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life." That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it." anon
