Can't say I particularly care what the British military ones are like. Caubeens are worn by pipers of the Óglaiġ na h-Éireann; the Irish Defence Forces, which makes it Irish enough for me.

Whether its an urban myth the story goes the English colonel of an Irish regiment wanted his men to wear some traditional Irish headgear "like the one in that picture" the picture happened to be of a Scottish immigrant
