We have the plant in barley I think, but we do need a clan motto. Let's get some suggestions-a good latin motto! We can post the suggestions here and then maybe have a poll to vote on the list. You don't have to post in Latin, as I'm sure there are several talented translators on this forum.
I'll start: In Kilts, Fellowship
Be well,

Bravo Panache. Bravo.
I most definitely agree. I'm glad to be a part of the rabble.
I don't mean to be the stick-in-the-mud. But, if we were seriously to adopt a plant badge: I do not think barley would be "fair." It's very apparent as to why this is picked, and there are more than just a couple of us who have nothing to do with "barley" especially in the sense it's intended. I think the plant would need to be something more universal. That is, if the idea were to indeed be pursued.

I would have to agree with this. For the same reason, hops would have to be ruled out. Either would be great if we were a beer appreciation club (not that many here don't appreciate beer ).
Since we're a kilting group, something like heather or the thistle might be appropriate. But that may also be too Scottish, and we are an international group.

well... barley isn't only used in brewing beer..it is also used in making whiskey... as far as hops.. since hops weren't added to beers (or mead) originally, Heather was used as it provided the bittering effect desired, just not as strongly as hops..
now as far as I'm concerned... Xmarks is a clan... maybe not a recognized clan..but who cares.. there are a lot of Irish/Scottish "clans" out there that are not recognized..yet no one stops them from calling themselves a clan...

Agreement
Henceforth whenever I'm asked what tartan or clan my XMTS is, it's Clan X.

Okay, then here is my suggestion the dandelion! And before you laugh to much read the Wikipedia description.

That is pretty much how this "clan" expands. We keep producing more members and yet we aren't breeding with each other. (a few members notwithstanding).
I like the dandelion. I used to grow them in my yard and put the leaves and flowers in salads or fry the leaves up with salt pork like spinach. As a bonus, if you are heading to an event and realize you forgot your plant badge, you can probably find one growing right there .
I would also like to add my vote for the "Non per cruor tamen per sententia" motto.
Now we need a battle cry... "hand over your wallet" has already been taken by clan Campbell, I believe.
There are 10 kinds of people in the world...
Those that understand binary, and those that don't.
