I'm not sure. 'Choice' to me sounds like a flimsy commitment. Can't think of alternatives at the moment, but 'Allegiance' is in my head. 'Through Allegiance, Not Blood.'

I don't see how allegiance can enter into it, we are in X Marks my choice and there is no Chief to swear allegiance to. We are regularly asked to give allegiance to the rules but that is to the rules of the site.
The camaraderie we have with each other in the site that has brought us together and formed friendships provides a form of personal allegiance which goes beyond any feeling of mere duty.

I personally liked the Flame-Haired Celtic Amazon Goddess' suggestion of "In Kilts Fellowship". But then again I am very very biased...

How about "In Kilted Fellowship"?
And I can understand and appreciate your bias...

I voted against the proposal and would support the quoted motto above. The word "choice" - for me - is closely associated with several other highly emotional issues. Wearing a kilt is not a political, moral or social issue for me. I just like wearing one. And I enjoy the fellowship this group offers.

I agree. 'Personal allegiance' is exactly what I meant. But it's difficult to spell it out in a four worded motto.
