I've never done this, but it should be easy, especially with solid color kilts. Just take a piece of fabric that you want as the size of the pocket and sew it into the inside of your kilt. If you have a solid color kilt, just make sure that you use the same color thread to sew in the pocket. I wouldn't pack too much stuff in the new pocket though, or it might look a bit grotesque.

I'm spoilt with my Freedom Kilt, six pockets. Two of which are hidden front slash pockets. I've heard some sew a hidden flask pocket to their inner apron. Don't expect it to carry much as it will show through the outer apron.

Yah, I got a thrifty and love it for what it is. Just got my FK cargo with 7 pockets. I wish you well if you try to pockets on your thrifty, but I would try wearing a belt pouch (think Liam in Rob Roy) or getting a nice FK or even a U.K.

Rkilts looks good as well and gets strong reviews here.

Maybe you could try the nightstalker sporran worn on the side with hangers instead of a strap?

On the other hand, it's not like your'e doing weird surgery on a hand sewn Newsome or anything.
