Pocket?
Please don't.
If the sporran bothers you up front - wear it on the side...

First, thanks for the welcome in the newbie forum and thanks for the reply.
Second, what about those of us kilt newbies that grew up with the brain stain of fanny packs on overweight old men and just aren't fans of the sporran?

Very welcome!
I guess it's a perception thing with me.
Now don't flame me, but when I see a kilt with-out a sporran, it looks like a skirt. With a sporran, it looks like a kilt.
Sure there are times around the house when I don't have a sporran on, but these are rare. I guess I'm just used to wearing a sporran. I wear my SWK nylon sporran most, for a little dressier I have a nice Kidder, and now I have one skunk and my old rabbit formal sporran for evening wear.
The trick to sporrans, is to get one of quality as soon as you can afford it. The SWK and the Kidder were both very econical and my hand fits inside easily. Oh and don't wear it too low - just below your belt buckle is the most comfortable for me.

I think the idea here was to give options. Pockets in a kilt give those options. If you like the look of a sporran, then, by all means, wear one. But having a pocket or two, (or six), allows me to sort my "Stuff".
Wallet in a back pocket, Car Keys in a front pocket, Small change in another, and my Passport or cell phone in the under-apron. Then bulky items like camera or flask go in the sporran.
This way I don't have to dig to the bottom of the sporran to find some change for coffee, and my cell phone is always easily accessible.
I don't know about you guys but by the time I've loaded my kilt up with all the "Stuff" I carry on a daily basis but I've added about 2 pounds of "Stuff". With pockets I have distributed the weight and don't have to do dig around to find anything.
Can you tell I LOVE the pockets in my Contemporary Kilts? To my mind if the pockets are constructed so that the lines of the kilt are not disturbed they make all the sense in the world. That's why I developed the Contemporary Style of kilt in the first place.

I wear the kilt because: Swish + Swagger = Swoon.

I'm finding that I slide my sporran over more and more... and sometimes I just leave it there.
