I'm a professional kiltmaker, I've made dozens to hundreds
-
I'm not professional, but I've made a good number of kilts (four or more)
-
Professional? Ha! I've made 1, 2 or 3.
-
I'm working on my first one right now!
-
I'm thinking about it.
-
No way, forget it! That's why I go to work and/or pinch my pennies!

Instead of "I'm thinking about it", perhaps I should say "I'm dreaming about it"! Gee, how I wish I could sew proficiently!

I started a X-kilt but for $68.00 I would rather buy one from Frugal Corner. It's alot easier.John

I have enough problems sewing a button on - forget making a kilt I'll leave that to the professionals. My wife made me this waistcoat though and I think it's a really good job. Don't think she would tackle a kilt either though.

I keep thinking about it, but I'm afraid I value my fingers too dearly to give it a try.
Never know though. One of these days maybe....

Kilt making is the only sewing where I find my maths and micrometer both come in handy.
Perhaps sewing by hand requires a special form of spacial awareness to be able to avoid placing the point of the needle into skin as well as cloth.
I can hold the folds level and sew a fairly straight line along the waist, inserting the needle entirely blind on the return stab, though after 50 years of sewing I should have got the hang of it.....
Only 25 more tiny pleats to sew into the striped kilt. It is going to look good, though.

I have made 3 knock arounds, 2 kid kilts, a 4 yard box pleat (using x-kilt instructions, pictures from x-marks/matts site) and artistic license, an x-kilt (cheerleader skirt style, black and red) and I am working on an 8 yard pv tartan kilt. I have been meaning to post pictures, maybee someday I will get around to it.
