I wore my Buccleuch tartan kilt today to our home town's Labor Day festival. While watching the parade, there was a group from a local theater that did cadence with lawn chairs, then every so often sat in them and did leg movements. Three of the guys wore kilts and my wife said, "They must not be wearing anything underneath - did you notice how they tucked and sat so carefully!" One had on a blue tartan kilt and my wife commented on the different colors of kilts.

I thought this a good time to ask her what color kilt I should get next. She stated that I have enough kilts already. I have two Utilikilts and one USA Kilt. In my counting that only makes three. I know three isn't enough and told her. She said again, "You don't need any more." I said, "There is never enough kilts!" I dropped the subject then. But I do want and need more.

Then our local Congressional Representative talked to me, as well as others along the parade route. He comes out whether it is an election year or not and we all like him. He asked me if I was done marching in the parade already and couldn't figure out that I just wear them for comfort. I wish I had more time to talk to him.

Some of the other questions I had were these: "So are you Scottish or Irish?" When I said, "German and Finnish," the person looked really confused until my wife said, "But he's comfortable!

One female that grew up in our town right away said, "So the question is, what are wearing under there?" I replied, "THAT IS a good question!" Then she said, "OK, I don't want to know and don't show me!" I thought that was funny.

I did get lots of looks, but mostly from older people, and the younger kids didn't blink an eye. The temperature was in the mid 80's F. and I had on a short sleeve, white shirt, the kilt, and sandals. My wife kept telling other people that she was quite warm and I was cool.

DALE.
