    Am I correct in thinking that the P-51 was powered by a Rolls Royce Merlin engine built, under licence,by Packard?A wonderful aircraft.

    Yes, although the first version, sent to Britain, was powered by an Allison engine.
    I love the "doppler-howl-sound" a Merlin powered aircraft creates, as it screams by!
