I usually answer the question with "Do You Really Want to Know?" This answer I found in a post by Matt. That 100% of the time makes the asker happy. My parents came out to visit this last weekend, and it was the first time they had seen me in the kilt. What did my mom do? She came over, nothing unexpected, while I was sitting, and said "What are you wearing under that thing." I was not regimental, but still my parents then ganged up on me saying I should wear shorts under the kilt. I told them it was more traditional to wear nothing under the kilt.
