Off to Ireland on Sunday
I leave for Ireland for three months this coming Sunday. I'll probably be spending most of my time on the southern coast (Cork, Kerry, Clare), but I would like to visit Galway/Aran Islands, and Dublin (for the Guinness and Jameson tours, of course). Does anyone have any other suggestions? I'll probably try to take a trip to Longford/Co. Longford at some point, since I have family living there.
Andrew.

The Quiet Man...
Andrew,
If you're familar with the John Ford classic, "The Quiet Man", you might want to visit Quiet Man country near Ashford Castle. Cong is where the majority of the film was made (all of the indoor scenes and some of the outdoor ones were shot in America) -- see these web sites for more information:

Andrew,
My mouth is drooling, how fortunate of you to go. I think that most anywhere would be such a joy. I might be a little bit presumptious here, but maybe you could hook up with Daneel for some really great places to go.
Are you going to do much hiking?

Oh you lucky man, it's not fair, everyone's travelling but me
I know Co.Clare best,
There's a great Music shop in Ennis - Custy's Music, if you love celtic music.
If you call into Kilrush youth hostel, say hello to Maise Finucane for me.
A drive up the coast is great from Kilkee (you can see dolphins there) to Ballyvaughan.
The Cliffs of Mohar are good, but there are cliffs just as beautiful south of Kilkee, and less touristy.
Lahinch is a nice coastal town, there's a great T shirt shop there that print their own celtic designs.
The Guinness Hopstore is well worth a visit, and if you're into history, seeing the Book of kells at Trinity College in Dublin is an experience.
I hope the trip goes well.

Just a thought .. but since your over there for so long why not take the 'Seacat' (high speed ferry) from Rosslare to Fishgaurd (approx one and a half hour trip) and come and see a little of Wales. If you can get to or near the Capitol (Cardiff)we could meet up and I could show you around a little. Derek

Ireland is wonderful and you should have a great trip.
I'll second Graham's idea of a Trinity college visit to see the Book of Kells.
Cliffs of Mohar are
still on my list of great places to visit there.
Have a Great Trip.
