Wow, you are a friendly bunch!
I'm wanting a 8 yard kilt I think. I don't know anything about what sort of pleats I want.
I'm not really "Scottish" my mother's family is supposedly Scotch-Irish, but their last name is White, which I have read is a sept of the MacGregor's? My fathers side of the family is Danish, and I look very Danish, which I saw someone mention my reenactment, I'm a Sword Dane! I have an almost full viking kit, now I am making a big Scandinavian tent, and some other cool things.
Oh, sorry, back to kilts! Anyway, as I'm Danish, I really don't have a family tartan to wear. But my friend who used to be in the Black Watch, said I could wear their tartan and they would not care at all. On new years we all got quite drunk and another friend dubbed us knights of Scotland. That's it's own story though.
I like the look of the Black Watch Tartan. So I have decided on it, and a lady friend of mine has said that there are wide belts they have to wear around them, which I have seen in my image searching. I think I would like to have one of those. And she has said that sporrans are "bothersome interferences" though I guess I may as well get one anyway? I definitely want one of those neat little belt flasks though! Jęttekul!
I will want wear this kilt to weddings or something like that, although I will also wear it around town, and of course to festivals and such, when I don't have viking business to do. In fact, I will be gearing it a lot to RenFests and medieval faires, and also I often get told to see the Highland games in Jacksonville. So, I guess I want out of it the same thing I get out of my Danish clothes, durable, serviceable, comfortable, but looks dressy.
Also, there are different things said about footwear, I have a pair of turning down knee boots, that are black leather, that I would like to wear with my kilt, but I don't want to look too silly having seen some things in the "Do's and Don'ts thread". So what kinds of boots might I get to wear? I like boots, not shoes, really, and lace up boots really don't suit me with a kilt I think...
Well thanks for all your kind welcomes and your advice and future advice.
