I prefer cream hose for formal attire. I think it looks less busy and lets the kilt stand out. I always get a kick from the idea we need to be different from the kilt hire industry. Why? Most people who buy a tux go for the same look as they get from a tux rental shop. What's the problem?
None other than our own Hamish can be seen sporting cream hose for formal wear.

Not true. While the quality might be different..the basics pieces are the same. Nobody is buying and wearing brown pants because the tux rental places rent black ones (as an example).

The point is, tux rental places don't always recommend the most appropriate dress. It's not unusual for them to encourage customers to rent attire that is more expensive yet not what is usually worn, especially to those who don't know any better.
