How about using variations of one tartan... Modern/Ancient or Modern/Hunting? Not exactly my cup of tea but it could make a real statement on the catwalk come tartan day.

I have to agree here. I think a patchwork kilt of sorts is interesting. Having different variations of the same tartan will keep the sett roughly the same and may lessen the shock of the kilt.

You know, my local fabric store sells patchwork tartan... roughly 3x3"... I've often wondered what could be done with it... perhaps a cheap, light weight patchwork kilt...?
