On every British village green
A statue of a soldier can be seen
Rifle pointed down, and bowed the head.
Regardless of whatever the war
The community still bears the scar
And they gather there each year to honour their dead.
We will remember them
We will remember them
At the going down of the sun
In the glory of God's dawn
As the last note of the "Last Post" fades away.
As the pipers play "The Flowers O' The Forest"
On this, our Armistice Day.
--Scott
"MacDonald the piper stood up in the pulpit,
He made the pipes skirl out the music divine."

Thank you for posting this----unless you've been there or know of someone who has, it's easy to forget.....

Thanks for posting that.
It always gets to me when people seem more concerned about making sure they have the stat holiday (it shouldn't carry over to other days IMHO) than to remember the brave men and women that have, and continue to, stand for Canada.
I will be marching with my son and his Beaver troop this Sunday as they take part in Remeberance day services at the local legion.

Just a gentle bump to keep this topic near the top of the list.
Saturday is our local parade to honor veterans. I'll be there. For those who may not have formal remembrance ceremonies or get togethers in their areas: wear your poppies, wear your medals, wear your kilts, wear your hearts on your sleeves....just remember those who have made it possible....God be good to them.

Green Fields of France is always a tear-jerker for me. I really like the DKM version. Here's a Youtube montage someone did putting that version to a slideshow. Unfortunately I couldn't find one where someone used all historical pictures. A good song none-the-less.

To my brothers I quote these famous lines from Shakespeare's Henry V:
He that shall live this day, and see old age,
Will yearly on the vigil feast his neighbours,
And say 'To-morrow is Saint Crispian.'
Then will he strip his sleeve and show his scars,
And say 'These wounds I had on Crispian's day.'
Old men forget; yet all shall be forgot,
But he'll remember, with advantages,
What feats he did that day. Then shall our names,
Familiar in his mouth as household words-
Harry the King, Bedford and Exeter,
Warwick and Talbot, Salisbury and Gloucester-
Be in their flowing cups freshly rememb'red.
This story shall the good man teach his son;
And Crispin Crispian shall ne'er go by,
From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be remembered-
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother
As we celebrate our survival tommorrow, we continue to remember those brothers who did not survive. We also pray for those brothers currently fighting for our freedom.
As a veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom, I salute you brothers!
