Where did you get the blade?

It is a carbon steel one from Atlanta Cutlery. They are pretty reasonably priced for someone wanted to try their hand at making one. The carbon steel will discolor very quickly if used (giving the blade a very antique appearance).
I had it sharpened at my local knife place and it putting an edge on it takes the bright finish to a satin one. It does take a nice edge though.

Does you mother plan to use the blood groove?

I just hope she doesn't hurt herself. This thing is sharp!
