			 The "real cold question" season

I was in a big box hardware store today. Aren't you cold in that kilt? TWICE. No you would be quite suprised how warm it is.In the grocery store.ONCE. Aren't you cold? Same answer.
In a fabric store the same thing.
In years past I have been asked some varation of this question many many times, so I guess it is that time of year, atleast here in the colder part or the world..
Some parts of the world it is moving from spring to summer and I guess the "question" would be aren't you hot in that kilt?

I had the same question today, a couple times, but we had a snowstorm up here, I also got a "Nice Legs" comment from a woman in the shopping mall.

Exactly. Last winter when out on our few SOKS nights (and only one kilt) I'd be outside the bar grabbing a smoke in kilt and sweater (-20C) and the trousered other smokers ask me the same question and I'm the one not shivering.

I'm beginning to think that this "aren't you cold?" and all of these other questions that we get hit with are just some kind of nervous reaction that the kilt elicits from those who just aren't prepared to encounter a Kilted One. Sort of like that "the mind seeks order" thing, the mind caught off balance feels that it just has to make the mouth and vocal chords say something...no matter how insipid...to try to find a way to fit the unexpected kilt into whatever form of reality they were, up until then, pleasantly dwelling in.
 Oh, well.

 Best

They wouldn't ask then because they were dressed the same, so they already had the answer. With a kiltie they see naked knees and nothing preventing a cold Nor' easter blowing up add to that, their perception of the 'answer' to THE 'question' in their mind's eye. I would ask the same question two years ago (B.K.) had I seen one.

I usually explain that kilts are to pants as mittens are to gloves. That way, the other person leaves a little bit smarter.
It does get old for me though. I swear people ask this question more often than "the" question.

P.S. for those of you who play, I just lost the game.

I dunno, it's odd to me that they ask that. I have a wool kilt (yay for used deals) and if I were wearing anything else in wool, no one would think twice about asking me if I were cold. But in a kilt...
