This is just me, but I wear a tie to "formal" celebrations. Weddings and funerals are "formal" to me.
My opinion is worth exactly what you payed for it.
I agree, weddings and funerals are tie occasion. My saying is no tie, unless someone is getting married or buried. However this being Alaska, and the very casual dress that is acceptable here I feel the sweater will be quite appropriate. If this wedding was in the Lower-48 I would definitely be wearing a tie. And the shirt and tie would look great I belive.
Thanks for the input.

That ensemble sounds fine to me. Sweaters have long been worn with the kilt. The choice now becomes, do you tuck the sweater in or leave it out. This question is usually solved by the bulk of the sweater. Large bulky cable stitched sweaters seem to look better out, and smoother, less bulky sweaters look better tucked in.
As to wearing a tie or not, that depends on the neckline of the sweater. If the tiecan be seen, wear one. If it is completely hidden - why bother?

NEVER, NEVER, NEVER wear a sweater tucked into a kilt, regardless of the size.
There will be the ceremony, break for the University of Alaska-Fairbanks hockey game, then reception.
My wife would love that!

Don't listen to him! Just because he can't pull it off, doesn't mean that it should never be done. If it works for you and you look good and are comfortable - go for it! After all, you do have that extra wide kilt belt to hold everything in....

James,
This gentleman asked for advice; am I not free to give my opinion simply because you disagree with it?
And for the record: I fully support wearing sweaters with kilts. I just don't support tucking them in, as they're not designed to be tucked in.

Peace on Earth and Good will to men.
It's a question of absolutes. Saying that you should Never do anything, especially with kilt is the problem.

I'm sorry, but I disagree with you there. There's an old saying, "just because you can doesn't mean you should"...and in the case of tucking-in sweaters (into a kilt or trousers), I would stand by that saying.
