I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

I've played paintball several times, and played kilted on some of those times too. I wore a UK Workmans, boots, and kneepads. Oh, I wore underwear too but nothing special. I figure if anyone gets an up kilt shot at me I deserved it.
I've never played airsoft but it looks fun too. Neither is very realistic but if you remember that being a great paintball player only means you are good at paintball, it can be fun.
What sucks is when you get taken out early in the match and have to sit out until the whistle blows for the next match. I prefer playing just with friends in the field. More fun and you can 'house rule' your outs and such.

It's probably more a mental game than the short physical bursts when gaining an advantage. It's something thatveryone should try once. Of the twenty people that I got from work to go, all went again and more so as word spread.
