Waists on kilts

The high waist looks more in proportion for most people - if you do make or buy a kilt to wear at jean waist level you might consider also wearing it slightly longer than traditional - people with short legs relative to their height really should not do this - believe me.

I have been making clothes for a long time and the proportions of an outfit can make or break it.

If you carry extra weight then wearing your kilt high will be far more flattering. You might need to have the waist made two or even four inches larger, but it won't make you LOOK larger - quite the reverse, as it will fall straighter.

Try standing in front of a long mirror with a towel or piece of material and hold it at different heights, fold it to different lengths, so you can see how different styles of kilt would look on you.
