My fiancé quite likes me in my kilt, I think it's because it's the only time I am very concious about colour coordination - something she holds very highly!
She was 100% in favour of me wearing it for our wedding - not sure I'm looking forward to the July Illinois weather wrapped in all that wool though!! In fact because if the heat I was musing over wearing a Jacobean shirt but that "wasn't dressy enough". If I wanted to wear it more I'm sure she'd be fine with it.
Keys, I'm sure in time your wife will come around. Especially when she sees positive reactions to your kilt.

My wife fully accepts me wearing my kilt--around the house. However, whoa be unto me should I dare to venture out in it! I don't get it. I love the quote: "The death of fear is in doing what you fear to do." She found this quote to be solid reasoning but still refuses to be seen in public with me in my kilt. I have a Utilikilt original in Olive, bought it back in the summer. Love it, love the freedom, wish I'd bought one sooner. The thing is, she can't quite pinpoint what she fears about ME wearing a kilt and being with HER. She just continues to say "I'm not ready to do that yet"
Hope to see replys from you soon, lads!

Hey Dave Welcome to a wonderful Group.
Long ago I stood in the door of a C130 at two thousand feet and the Jump Master said Son,The death of fear is in doing what you fear to do,so jump allready.
So I did and i've been jumping ever sense.
So jump in. I think you need to venture out alone an test the waters.
Once you have done that and find its no big deal it will become second nature to just grab your kilt and go out.
Keep in mind however that a utilikilt is more or less a causual and perhaps you should give thought to something a bit more dressy for special events, such as out to dinner, etc.
Check out some of the Kilt sites at the top an you will find them very affordable.

I basically took that approach when I went white-water rafting a few months ago. Especially as that's just so not me...
But back to kilting: my wife is yet to discover my kilts. Y'see we've been separated for about 18 months and are on the verge of moving in back together. My mother won't be seen with me kilted, which is odd given she's a MacGregor... I hope my wife will like it. (I could have been kilted for my wedding, but she wasn't sure.)
Wade.

Slowly making PROGRESS at my house. I purchased a SWK Thrify Black Watch in December, and enjoy wearing it around the house. Wife doesn't say anything one way or another. I'm waiting for some personal spending money (wouldn't go over well spending out of regular budget w one in college right now), i.e. Birthday soon, to get a SWK STANDARD to start trying out-and-about. The Thrifty feels a bit too casual to me to go out in, but is comfortable and has been a good first-kilt to get broken in with. Those of you that advise "time.... go slow...." seem to be right on.

It does take time,
Dave from Boston, Massachusetts.
The thrifty is my house kilt. My spouse is used to the fact that I attend church kilted, and that other men attend the same church kilted. Still does not want to be seen with me kilted, but that is even starting to thaw after about six months, even asked me to wear the kilt, for pictures to go to the family. My students refer to me as the kilted teacher. That will change as one of the other kilties in the church is joining the religious education team for next year. Both male RE teachers kilted.
Spouse's family wants me kilted at an up coming event.

I am not a wife, but perhaps someday I will be. I do know that what my significant other wears wrapped around his bum does not matter a huge amount, as long as it's clean. And Ironed.
What makes him happy makes me happy. I like to learn about kilts and to discuss them, partly because I'm a textile nerd, and partly because they are a bit of a passion for Yeti, and it makes me happy to be a part of that. Just like it makes me happy when he learned to knit (he's getting there). He is happy and confident in a kilt, so I am okay with it. Although it's not much of a stretch from the sort of thing my family does, so I may be numb to such weirdness.

LOL! That surprised me to see. I'm wearing my kilt in east TN everyday now, and catching a lot of hell for it. Not an easy place to be kilted. >_<

I know where your coming from Roan.
A few years ago my wife an I were passing thru a small town in southeastern Ky.
We were tired, hungry, and running low on fuel, but having noticed the looks from people giving us cold stares,I told my wife-We are NOT stopping here.
If your in east Tennesee you probibly know where im talking about.
After leaving there I turned to my wife and said-wonder if that town is part of the USA.

...it's gonna be a loooong road...
sounds familiar. my wife bought me a Black Watch for Christmas but doesn't want to see me in it around the house.

Which is kind of ironic, considering the Smoky Mountain area was heavily populated by Scots.
