    Sauce for the goose

I was down at the post office wearing my military Argyle and Sutherland kilt ( mmm, toastie) when an older woman alongside me said "Oh, you do look nice. What tartan is that?"
I told her and she replied "I thought so. My husband was in the Argyles". She then went on: "After he died I used to wear his kilt quite a lot"
We chatted some more and then parted.

Now this is the 3rd occasion when a woman has told me that she has worn her late husband's kilt. Kinda odd I thought. The military kilt is very heavy and all men's kilts are made for our shape. While one can appreciate not letting a good kilt linger in the cupboard, I can honestly say I have never heard a woman say "Oh my husband had a lovely 3 piece suit. I often used to wear it when he passed on".
I guess to these women it was just a nice tartan skirt ( sorry guys)

My father-in-law came home one time to find his wife with his kilt spread out measuring it up for a few tartan skirts. Thankfully it was just a joke but it cost him a new outfit for his wife. Women do wear kilts, dancing competitions for instance and my wife had proper kilts as a child, but usually just as a skirt.

It also might just be her way to stay close to her husband. My wife wears some of my old shirts quite a lot.

Whilst young women tend to have a greater difference in waist and hip measurements, age tends to reduce it, so although a bride might not be able to wear her husband's kilt, by the time she is a widow it might fit her quite well.

I well remember after my grandfather died my grandmother would wear his bathrobe. She said it still had his smell on it and it felt like he was hugging her.

Kilt - bathrobe -Makes sense to me.

No, I think it was much more than that.
