The answer you want is YES!!
You are welcome to wear any tartan, most of us wear tartans with a family connection, or a location ( City , county, country ), and some like me wear some because they really like the pattern and colourway.
It's not a bad thing though to find out a little about the tartan, because you are guaranteed to be stopped and asked about it!and most kilted folks will say it shows respect to the tartan.
I like to see a mix of different tartans at special events, but perhaps you could ask some of the family if they have a preference.
