The Great Guinness Toast
This is the 16th year it's been going on. It originated in Pittsburgh. Great time! They have official counters and add up all the toasters in the end hoping to break the record every year.

We'll be at Flanagan's Irish Pub in Dunedin, after helping a friend celebrate the 9th anniversary of his bone marrow transplant, and 5th year of recovery from leukemia.

Well until you started this thread I'd naught heard of this tradition. Since I read this thread, yesterday, I heard a commercial for a bar near me advertising for this event. Funny how that works...I'm there!

Never heard of it so it maybe doesn't happen this side of the pond. The only Guinness I ever thought worth drinking was in Ireland anyway. For some reason it just doesn't taste the same anywhere else. And when I started drinking it it only came in bottles and each pub you went into in Ireland had their own labels on the bottle.

Maybe, it's like Coca Cola. The makers change the recipe to suit the taste of the consuming country.

I agree, it tastes better on the other side of the ocean, however, a major beer distributor in Memphis told me all kegged Guinness in the US market originates from Ireland. The taste probably has something to do with variable shipping conditions - can't be all that good for beer.
And oddly, all bottled Guinness for US consumption is brewed in Canada. All the bottles I've seen bottle read 'imported', but no mention from where.
Slainte yall,

Your right Steve, I've noticed that too. (Goes to kitchen for a bottle) Okay, the front label reads:
"Traditionally Brewed St. James Gate Dublin"
.... yet, the fine print on the back label reads:
"Brewed and bottled by Guinness Brewing Company, New Brunswick, Canada. Product of Canada."
I can recall buying bottled Guinness about 20 yrs ago when everything on the label (brewed, bottled etc) was done in Ireland.
