I've bought from them , too, and the tartan is very high quality. I did just pick a random tartan on his eBay list and took a look at what he's saying now, and, if you scroll down, it _does_ say that the tartan doesn't have a kilting selvedge and will need a hem.

So - here's my two cents. Lots of kilts have hems, and, if it's done well, you'll never notice. Our band Quartermaster called me up the other day and asked if it would be possible to put a hem in one of our band kilts (16 oz), and I said sure. She brought the kilt to me, and I said, oh, it already has a hem in it! She had never noticed that some of our band kilts have hems, and she's been the Quartermaster for 15 years.
