Any Recomandations of Kiltmakers In Scotland

I have a kilt made by Stewart Rendall and can definately recommend him. It is Gunn Weathered 16oz and wearing it is amazing! Having seen my mother sew quilts by hand, I can tell you the hand stitching on my kilt is phenomenal. Stewart was great to work with and communicated with me frequently while he was making my kilt.

Thanks for starting this thread and thanks to everyone who replied. When I get to Scotland (next year or the following) I would like to get a new kilt made and wondered who to choose. Although no one has said there is a definitive maker (as if!) there are some real choices now. Grand to hear that so many makers can earn a living making beautiful wearable art.

You might consider ordering the kilt ahead of time and having it ready for you when you get to Scotland. This would allow any last minute adjustments to be made, avoid shipping cost and potentially avoid customs.

I was speaking to a few people from around the area and they recommend McCall’s http://www.mccallsltd.com/

I wonder if any of you had any opinion, I have visited a few in Aberdeen now and McCall’s was the most impressive

I don't doubt their quality Ben but they appear to be on the pricier side.

But having them on your doorstep could be an advantage over travelling elsewhere which would eat up some of the difference or having to deal remotely with a supplier elsewhere. It is also giving support to a local business.
