Could you combine the elastic flashes and the knit tie flashes?
The elastic in mine pass through a loop in the top of the cloth flash part. If you passed one of James knit cords through the loop. If the cord was long enough to rap around the leg but not hang down below the hose cuff.
The knit cord would give you comfort and the cloth flash could be your tartan.

Here's the ones I have on today - I'm experimenting with flashes the same color (almost) as the hose.... I think I like it for a change of pace.

as you can see I know nothing about knitting, I am looking for a project for my wife, she likes to keep busy ::::::: ducking::::::: before she throws something at me

I don't see why not, it would just slow things down a bit.

For those that have made these or experimented with doing so...... what gauge yard should be used, and what size knitting needles? I'm assuming the 'round' needles are what's required? (I've never knitted anything beyond a flat knit/purl neck warmer thingie, in large gauge yard on size 9/10 straight needles.)
There's just something intriguing about these.......... and if I completely botch it, I could always use it to tie my hair back from the wind

I had a PM wanting to know how I attach the fringes. Well if there was one question, maybe others might be interested.
Here's how I do it.
You need a stiff piece of cardboard that is the width of the fringe. In my case I used 3 inches. Yarn, knitted garter, needle, scissors, button hook.

Thread a needle first, with about 1 1/2 feet of yarn. Set aside.

Wrap several wraps around the cardboard, I use 14 wraps.

Slide the needle under the loops and tie off with two granny knots.

See next post.

Cut the loops.

Take the long end of the yarn and place needle through the end of the garter. pull tight and tie off to the other end of the needle yarn.

Wrap the yarn around the garter several times, where the fringe meets the end of the knitted garter, then thread the end through the loops several times and pull tight. The last threading is through the middle of the loops so that the loose end is with all the other fringes.

Trim the loose ends and you're done.
