    I believe the seam you are referring to may either be a fabric splice or some kiltmakers use a seem there to alter the hang of the fabric, so that the kilt may sit properly on the wearer. Different body shapes require different techniques.

    I think you may be right Steve. Here's a picture of the seam I'm talking about.....



    So that's the hem of the last pleat viewed from the rear. So that's the back of the front apron on the left of the picture.

    According to my wife, it causes the bottom of the last pleat to kick out the bottom of the left of the apron a little.
