If you want to see the most accepted ways of wearing the kilt and accessories, see Hamish's albums. He's generally accepted as the ambassador of proper kilt wear. So, one usually wouldn't wear a black kilt with a black kilt jacket and black kilt hose.

I was directed by the chorus manager to wear all black if I wanted to go kilted.

Ron, I thought about the Utilitux, but I like the look of the black shadow better. Thanks for the suggestion.

Macman, we did Ravel's Daphnis et Chloe. At first glance it looks like it would be easy to do - no words, just ah's and ooh's, but is complex in structure - many time signatures, odd chords and having to jump in and have pitches just right. It came off well though.

    Dale,

Your words are extremely generous. Thank you.

However, I was thinking about your 'sartorial ensemble' as you describe it, and visualising you as part of the choir whilst so dressed ........ and I believe that black hose would, in fact, look better from the body of the auditorium than your charcoal hose. I just feel it would be more in keeping with all the "pengiun suits" around you.

There certainly are times and occasions when too much 'black' is quite simply too much. On this occasion, however, I would have opted for the too much black look! Try it next time.

Oh, and very well done, by the way.

    Take care,
    Ham.

Thanks for the advice Hamish. I didn't have black hose, so I made do with charcoal. I agree, black would have completed the ensemble. I hadn't thought about the sporran "disappearing" with a black cantle, but that makes sense. I may test the hair spray idea Ruanaidh suggested and see if it dulls it a bit. Seems I need to be on the lookout for a "antiqued" cantle sporran.

    Thanks for the advice,

    Dale
