We had done a Scottish Country dance during the reception, as well. Many of the gents were in kilts. Then the gears shift and this beautiful, olive skinned, dark haired young lady puts on some Arabic music and dances for the crowd.
Thing is, though, this was a true belly dance. Forget all those silly "I dream of Jeanie" images. She was dressed like any nice conservative young lady would dress to a formal dinner -- not erotic at all. And the dance, while sexy and beautiful, was not suggestive. Needless to say, no one dared approach her with dollar bills -- I think there would have been some rather large Colombian men who would have had a thing or two to say about that!
Anyway, the mix of cultures made for a very memorable wedding reception. The music and dances were a nice mix of American/Scottish/Hispanic/Arabic traditions. You don't see that every day!

Blessed was those years when we had the opportunity to go to Libanon for concerts at the Inter Continental Hotel in Beyruth.
Seems just like yesterday... We met young people in the Hotel's nightclub that where kids when the first war was there.
They had to learn twice as fast because they only had school one day out of two.
I met a Christian taxi driver , survivor and warrior from the first war that told me (at the time... 3 years ago) that all of his pay went for his kid's schooling...
Are any of those folks still alive ?
Do you have any contacts there, Matt ?
Libanon is 2 hours away from France... at our doorstep !
désolé d'avoir plombé l'ambiance
