Mine usually end up somewhere between my pants waist and kilt waist.
And if your waist measurement is right at the line between sizes, I'd recommend going with the smaller size. I went with the larger size on my first one, and while it was wearable, it was slightly too large.
I ended up giving it to my brother who is also slightly too large so things worked out well.

FYI they have elastic in the waistband so it's usually best to order slightly smaller if you like to wear yours at a tight fit. I wear a size 34 pants, and I ordered the 34 kilt from them, and it's too loose. Even when I wear it at my naval. It's not so lose that it falls off, but it's not snug like I like to wear my kilts.

I might have to disagree. My sizing was on the line between two sizes (even listed for both). I went for the smaller size. I had ordered the works, however, and while I could probably have worn the kilt, the buckles didn't reach.
I wound up selling it unworn and getting the next size up.
P.S. Cephas, mine was in the Clergy tartan, like what you appear to wearing in your pic.

Interesting. The one I had that was larger was the original style. Maybe that made a difference. I also have a works I got a few months ago and it's pretty close but seems to be just a hair big. I have another original that I bought in the smaller size when I gave the first one away and it's about right.

Beowulf, I wonder if this shows a problem in their sizing for buckles.

Hmmm, could be. Plus there is probably some variation from one kilt to the next in manufacturing them, so maybe I've just gotten the ones on the larger end of the spectrum and you got the ones on the other end.

Yes, my kilt in the pic is a clergy tartan. I needed a kilt for some of my "clergy" duties on Highland Games week and it seemed the most appropriate to get.
Its not a sportkilt though which is why I am asking the question about sizes.
