From the LOTM: An item of Interest from the Yucatán Peninsula

Gentle Readers,

As for this small incident involving young Gregory that I have brought to your attention, I apologize to those that may have hoped for more installments in a rapid pace. There is a tale to be told and I hope it comes to be in a timely fashion that I might bring it to our fair rabble. I ask for your patience and suggest that in the intervening time that you peruse the tales of Mr. Dove and Madam Pleater for your enjoyment.

What is this? Does Jamie often spin stories for us? I know I haven't been here a year but is this a gift often bestowed upon the rabble?

Indeed as you have surmised yourself, and your hypothesis valildated by our Mr. Dove, in the past I have turned my attentions to the writing of a few tales and some short verses of what I hope passes for poetry. I shared these with the noble membership of our forum in the hopes that they would be of some amusement. I shall attempt to list some of these shortly should your curiosity require further investigation into these minor works.

In a reality not quite like our own, a large shaggy dog wearing a tartan collar lays stretched out on a hardwood floor, staring at a laptop sitting in front of him. His only movement is the solid thump of his tail against the floor, wagging in response to each new installment of an internet serial.

Take your time, Jamie - my canine alter ego and I can wait.
(And since you don't have commercial sponsors like Dave, I'm wondering what form "Wompet" may show up in - Sabretooth Border Collie? The megafauna Canis tartanus? Or given the Lost World/Journey to the Center of the Earth theme, perhaps a kilted dog-man?)
(Actually, that last one is more Burroughs than Doyle or Verne, but ERB did like his hidden civilizations too.)

The enjoyment of a meal lies not so much in it's brute consumption, but in anticipation of what is to come. Take your time Jamie, the company here is good, and I intend to savor this literary meal.

OOWEE!!! Them thar sound like purty good eats!

Except shouldn't it be real cornbread instead of the rolls. You know, made with white corn and no sugar.

Not with a "fancy" dinner as above. Then you make rolls from the sourdough gunk growing in the fridge.

With that being said I just finished a lunch of homemade vegetable soup (yes, I spent 5 hours in the kitchen on Saturday) along with a large piece of said corn bread made with white corn meal and NO sugar. (In a cast iron skillet.)
