I use soccer socks for most of my daily wear. The kilt hose is saved for when I want to dress things up a bit.

For everyday wear, you might want to try some knee-length athletic hose, such as rugby and soccer players wear. They can be had rather cheaply, less than $10.00/pr, and should last. I have also had good luck buying from Sport Kilt, not wool, but very durable, and no pilling at least for me. Good luck in your search.

Ah, the Lewis kilt hose...

Someday, hopefully soon, I will have a brown pair for my daywear outfit... instead of the chream hose. It will be worth it too.
