I have one or two of those brushes and have to admit, I'd be nervous using that on some fabrics or garments like the kilt. The stuff that does the work seems a bit grabby, and I could see that being harsh over time.
While I'm not sure what one of the tape lint rollers would do over time, I think I'd probably use those. When I was in high school, a lot of my friends in junior ROTC (I think they call it?) would use the lint rollers on their uniforms. I could be wrong, but aren't their uniforms made out of wool? Same with my husband's suits... he uses lint rollers. The adhesive probably isn't strong enough to mess up the fibers as much, but I've had the brush practically refuse to move smoothly on some fabrics or even in some cases just had the feeling it might damage the fibers a little if I continued using it.
I could be completely wrong, of course. I haven't used one of these on a kilt (the ones we have are acrylic, anyway, and not wool), and it didn't even cross my mind to try it on them.

I was in Naval Jr ROTC, we always referred to it as NJROTC, but the only thing that I remember being wool was perhaps the coats. That was back in 97~98.
