A couple of you made suggestions or pointed things out that I hadn't thought of, so I made some changes to my proposal and it's sitting in my supervisor's mailbox as we speak. She'll read it tomorrow. It's my hope that she realizes (1) this isn't a goof; it's a serious expression of my heritage, and (2) this isn't worth making a stink over.

As I wrote earlier, this could open a can of worms if she says no. To me, it is a fight worth fighting. For my employer, it really shouldn't be.
