On the other hand... I worked for a year or two at a store that did Aura readings via biofeedback. What came of that experience was that I learned that you can be surprised what you can determine from people just by looking at them for a few moments, though there can be some false signals, its not that hard. You just need to be careful not to manifest your snap judgment onto the person forcing them to be what you think rather than who they are. (ie, let them be themselves and see if they prove you wrong)

Ah, but how much better to not make that snap judgement at all.
I figure, as Matt points out, that others may do that....make a judgement on who I am based on how I look. That's their issue. Just because they do it doesn't mean that I have to.

I mean, I DO make those judgements, just like anyone. However, I hope that I am a whole, whole, whole lot more available and ready to change those judgements mighty darned quickly when presented with even a shred of evidence to the contrary.

There are professors in my building who pull down multimillion dollar grants and have labs with a dozen to twenty postdocs and grad students in them and they look like one step removed from street person.

Are Clinton and Stacy recommending the kilt these days? It seems to me you could spend your whole five grand on one really good kilt outfit, but they might have a problem with that concept.

OK, OK, OK. I'm only joking. Jeez, can't you guys take a joke? In all this get-in-touch-with-your-feelings talk, I just thought I'd throw in a little chauvinist joke for laughs.

I hope you truly learned your lesson. LOLGood story and something to learn from.

Having spent 44 years in an institution (of higher learning ), I have had many such experiences.
I quickly learned to keep an open mind. As Matt said, it is a natural (probably ingrained through thousands of years human history) reaction. It may really be a survival mechanism, putting us on our guard when meeting a stranger who could be of hostile intent.

One, looked like a high fashion model, wound up as one of my advisees. I never did get tired of looking at her, and she still drops by when she is in town. (She is now a Judge in Upstate NY).

Then there was the one with the spiked purple hair, who wore a live snake around her neck. . . . Oh well, life can be awfully dull without something or someone(s) to liven it up.
