Is this a personal variant of the Shepherd's Check, also known as the "Falkirk" or "Northumberland" tartan?
Regards,

Todd,
I first saw it along side the Kerr Modern and Kerr Hunting at Ferniehirst (Kerr Castle outside Jedburgh) and thought it was pretty stellar looking. I can't speak for the history, or the pedigree of the tartan, but it very well may be as you suggest, a personalized variant of the Shepherd's Check.
cheers,
Alex
